Pat Snedden, Chair of Manaiakalani Education Trust, honoured for work in digital education

Pat Snedden, the Executive Chair and founder of the Manaiakalani Education Trust – and one of Hāpara’s earliest supporters – was recently made a Member of the NZ Order of Merit for services to Education and Māori. We are so happy to send our congratulations for this well-deserved honour.

The Manaiakalani project currently operates in 50 schools across New Zealand, serving approximately 12,000 learners, many of whom are Māori and Pasifika. Pat Snedden has worked tirelessly to spread the Manaiakalani Way, using digital learning tools as a hook to engage these learners as digital citizens. The program has proven to be extremely successful, exceeding government expectations and leading to both improved NCEA results and the potential for enhanced employment and life outcomes for students.

Hāpara owes much of its success to Pat Snedden and the Manaiakalani educators. The first version of Hāpara Teacher Dashboard was born out of their need for a better tool to manage digital learning and to empower teachers to track learner progress, provide ongoing feedback and facilitate collaboration and differentiation. You can read our full case study about this partnership here.

The Hāpara team continues to be inspired by Pat and the educators, learners and parents that have made the Manaiakalani Way such a great success. We only hope to match their commitment to finding innovative approaches to supporting and empowering learners.
